APS Training Group RTO#31588. APS Training Group is the registered training organisation that issues the nationally recognised Statement of Attainment when a student has been deemed competent in a course.
HOW IS THE TRAINING DELIVERED?
- Face-to-Face Inexperienced.
- Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) Experienced.
COURSE REQUIREMENTS:
- Provide current Photo Identification.
- Provide current White Card.
- Have a USI# before Enrolment.
- Have a good understanding of mobile plant equipment.
- Be able to possess adequate Language, Literacy and Numeracy skills.
COURSE OVERVIEW:
A Grader is a self-propelled, articulated wheeled machine used within the civil industry. Graders typically have three axles, with the steering wheels in the front, followed by an adjustable blade mounted in the centre, then the cab, followed by the tandem axles along with rippers/scarifying points. A Grader's primary purpose is to strip and place material to keep surfaces smooth. For the Grader to be used economically and safely, the operator must receive adequate training. This course focuses on the skills and knowledge required to Conduct Civil Construction Grader Operations in the Resources and Infrastructure Industries.
COURSE OUTLINE:
This unit covers Conduct Civil Construction Grader Operations within the civil industry. This includes but not limited to:
- Plan and prepare for Grader operations.
- Operate Grader in line with established requirements to complete work activity.
- Select, remove, fit, and use attachments for a Grader.
- Prepare to relocate the Grader.
- Conduct housekeeping activities.
YOU WILL LEARN TO:
This includes but not limited to:
- Apply relevant documentation, policies, and procedures.
- Apply safe work practices.
- Apply problem solving and troubleshooting techniques.
- Use of correct personal protective equipment.
- Plan and prepare for the job at hand.
- Apply correct positive communication techniques.
- Carry out pre-operational checks on a Grader.
- How to operate a Grader in a safe and efficient manner.
- Driving and operating a Grader and adjusting techniques to suit site conditions.
- Stripping/spreading materials with a Grader.
- Carry out post-operational checks on a Grader.
LOGBOOK TRAINING:
All students are required to complete a minimum of 160 hours, recorded in their logbook, of on-the-job training in a working environment.
Set tasks are listed on the front of the logbook and must be completed several times, depending on the student.
ASSESSMENTS:
There will be theory assessments to complete.
There will be a practical assessment to complete, this may take 4 to 6 hours and will only be conducted once the logbook and theory assessments have been verified.
COURSE DURATION:
The duration of this course will vary depending on the student's ability to complete the logbook training and theory assessments. Once your trainer has reviewed the logbook and marked the theory assessments, your trainer will then book you in to conduct the practical assessment.
LICENSING REGULATION:
Load shifting equipment (other than a Forklift) are no longer required to have a licence, however an operator must still be deemed competent.
QUALIFICATION OUTCOME:
Successful students receive a "Statement of Attainment", and a wallet-sized operator card, which is recognised under the Australian Qualifications Framework.
