RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING (RPL) OVERVIEW:
Depending on your skillset, if you are eligible for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL), you may be suitable to reduce the time required to obtain your qualification, or you may not be required to study at all. The Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) approach certifies your competencies and skills gained throughout your work and life experiences, including paid or unpaid jobs, and it does not necessarily include formal training here in Australia.
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) avoids duplication of training. For example, a person who has operated heavy machinery within the Civil industry for several years would have developed skills to match a full Unit of Competency. In some cases, previous experiences may not be sufficient to provide a person with Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) due to the lack of evidence. In these circumstances, gap training is required to demonstrate that the person has the skills and knowledge within that industry.
CAN ANYONE APPLY FOR RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING (RPL)?
Yes. If a person has previous experience, knowledge or skills that are relevant to the course industry, they can apply regardless of whether their training or experience obtained occurred in Australia or overseas. You will need to provide evidence of knowledge and skills gained to be successful for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL).
WHY IS RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING (RPL) IMPORTANT?
- Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is important in many ways as it allows your previous work and life experiences, and paid or unpaid skills to be recognised with a qualification, nationally.
- It allows you to undergo gap training in areas that need additional training without completing the full course.
- It will reduce the amount of time it takes to complete a full course, and it will reduce the cost of the course.
THE PROCESS OF RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING (RPL):
During the process, we will allocate an experienced trainer and assessor who will ensure that you have the existing skills and experience needed for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL). Your trainer will compare your skills with the industry standards and the experience within the industry that you are applying for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL).
HOW OUR PROCESS WORKS FOR RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING (RPL):
Step 1 - Skills
Together we will discuss your previous experiences so that we can help you choose the correct Qualification or Units of Competence that matches your skills, and guide you to achieve your goals.
Step 2 - Evidence
We will give you an RPL kit which will allow you to provide us with as much evidence as you can, such as a current resumé, student self-assessment, third party report, reference letters, work examples and photos/videos.
Step 3 - Validation
We will allocate an experienced trainer and assessor to review your RPL kit and the evidence provided. Your trainer will have a conversation with you, and then conduct the final checks to confirm and validate the information is current. Please note: at the trainer's discretion; further evidence may be required before Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is issued.
Step 4 - Recognised
Congratulations! All evidence has been checked, confirmed and validated. You will receive a nationally recognised certificate or a statement of attainment that will be issued by our partnered Registered Training Organisation All States Training RTO#32577.
